Spring is maple season in Finger Lakes Farm Country. Get your sweet treat fix at the Sweetrees Maple Open Sugarhouse! Sweetrees Maple Products is a small family business that has a passion for supplying the community with delicious maple products. This March event includes a tour of the sugar bush to see the miles of tubing that carries the sap directly into the sugar house. Stay a while and watch a few demonstrations on how to make your own maple products at home and sample a few sweet maple treats!
Spend one of your summer days at one of our county fairs. Stroll through the midway and enjoy your favorite fair food or take a ride on the Ferris wheel and wave to friends below. There is so much fun and adventure to experience at the fair including, rides, horse shows and petting zoos. You also won’t want to miss any of the shows at the grandstand, including Demolition Derbies and Rodeos.
Taste some of the best locally produced cheese from members of the Finger Lakes Cheese Alliance at the Finger Lakes Cheese Festival held at Sunset View Creamery in Odessa, New York every year in late July. After enjoying a day of self-guided farm tours and hayrides, guests can also find homemade jams, jellies, syrups, local produce and handcrafted gifts at the event.
Pumpkins patches, apple picking, and festivals are plentiful in the Fall. The Newark Valley Apple Festival is celebration of simpler times and the local harvest on a restored colonial farmstead. Celebrate the season with food, live music, arts and crafts, and horse drawn wagon rides. Colonial life demonstrations include blacksmithing, spinning, weaving, woodwork and open-hearth cooking.
Take in the beautiful colors of the surrounding hills at the Cohocton Fall Foliage Festival. Arts and craft vendors, food vendors, a flea market, and antiques fill the village greens during the festival weekend in October. The whole family can enjoy the Saturday parade, petting zoo and free horse drawn wagon rides all weekend long.
Get a taste of Finger Lakes Farm Country at the Taste FLXpo in February. The local food and beverage festival features samples of local grown food, wine, and craft beverages. Talk with the local farmers and producers when you shop the farmers market to take home fresh local products.
Nothing says tradition quite like taking the family out to pick the perfect centerpiece for you holiday decorating. Visit a Christmas tree farm and cut your own tree or pick from pre-cut trees. Don’t forget your wreath too!
