When visiting the Finger Lakes Region, take some time to learn about our large farm culture and the importance it brings to our community. Many of our farms offer educational experiences to help you engage with our land and learn more about permaculture.
At Healing Spirits Herb Farm & Education Center, the owners pride themselves on “taking care of the land that takes care of us.” The farm is surrounded by 30 acres of farmland that is grounded with holistic roots that have been worked to create the finest quality of medicinal herbs. From these herbs, extracts, teas, infused oils, salves and creams are made. The healing energy of these plants is believed to have positive effects on our spiritual, emotional and mental selves.
Nestled in the rolling hills west of Watkins Glen, Farm Sanctuary is home to more than 500 rescued farm animals. Guests are invited to take a guided tour and learn more about farm animals and the vegan lifestyle. Visitors can even stay right at the Sanctuary in cabins or tiny houses.
Farmland Animal Park is an 18 acre family-owned farm located in Wyncoop Creek Valley of Chemung. The peaceful and charming country setting makes for the perfect weekend activity or school field trip. While exploring the land, visitors are welcome to feed and engage with the animals that roam. These hands-on activities make for great learning experiences.
Bluebird Trail Farm offers classroom educational programs that teaches students about animal welfare and allows them to learn about fiber producing animals. Fields trips to the farm are also offered and include a full farm tour.
Cayuta Sun Farm serves as a central hub for permaculture knowledge and education. The farm offers apprenticeships and courses that allow community members to learn about permaculture and gain agricultural skills. Whether you sign up for a class, learn about holistic herbs or just spend the day on the farm, there’s always opportunities to learn about Finger Lake’s agriculture!
