Fall in Farm Country

Apple picking, pumpkin patches, fall festivals, and corn mazes along with scenic fall foliage drives are bountiful in Finger Lakes Farm Country. There is no better place to experience the true essence of fall than in Farm Country. You are sure to make some great memories while picking ripe apples from the tree or the best pumpkin from the patch and our farms offer some of the best.

Finding the perfect pumpkin at the pumpkin patch is essential to the Fall experience. Iron Kettle Farm makes it easy and fun for the whole family. After searching through their pumpkins to find yours hop on the hayride or find your way through the corn maze. There is a variety of Fall fun activities for kids of all ages.

Apple picking, much like visiting the pumpkin patch, is a fun and festive way to celebrate the Fall season. Grab a wagon and head out into the orchards at Reisinger’s Apple Country where they are growing over 20 varieties of apples for visitors to pick August-November. After gathering up your bounty of apples visit their store for homemade Apple Cider Donuts, apple cider, jams and jellies made from Reisinger’s fruits, and products from local farmers. Stoneyridge Orchard & Winery invites guests to explore their orchard and find their favorite variety of apples to pick and take home. Their homemade apple cider donuts and hand-pressed cider can’t be missed. Try their apple wine that comes in six varieties from sweet to dry, and for non-wine drinkers try the apple beer.

Enjoying the splendors of Fall can come as simply as taking a ride through the scenic countryside and taking in all the beautiful colors. Stop for pictures along the way and visit farm stands to pick up fresh seasonal produce, delicious baked goods, and more. Drive through the sprawling hills of the Canisteo Valley and stop at FitzPatrick Farm Market & Deli for fresh local fruits and vegetables, bakery items, jams, and more. Before you head back out on the road grab a sandwich or something from the grill at their deli. Drive along the lakes then take the backroads from Keuka Lake to Seneca Lake and drive through the trees boasting brilliant Fall colors. The scenic route offers a beautiful setting for a drive through farm country.

The region comes alive with festivals and events like the Cohocton Fall Foliage Festival and the Newark Valley Apple Festival. Getting its start in 1966, Cohocton’s Fall Foliage Festival is a chance for neighboring communities to gather to celebrate the beautiful surrounding hills in all their colorful splendor. Arts and craft vendors, food vendors, a flea market, and antiques fill the village greens during the weekend in October. Enjoy the Saturday parade, petting zoo and free horse drawn wagon rides all weekend long. Bring the whole family to celebrate Fall at the Cohocton Fall Foliage Festival. Step back in time at the annual Newark Valley Apple Festival. A celebration of simpler times and the local harvest on a restored colonial farmstead. Enjoy food, live music, arts and crafts, and horse drawn wagon rides. Colonial life demonstrations include blacksmithing, spinning, weaving, woodwork and open-hearth cooking. For full list of events happening this Fall visit the Finger Lakes Farm Country events calendar.
